A taxpayer may file a petition with the Value Adjustment Board for the following reasons:

The taxpayer objects to the Property Appraiser's value assessment of the taxpayer's real or personal property.

The taxpayer's application for any of the following exemptions or special use classifications is denied:

homestead exemption
-
any other tax exemption as provided by Chapter 196, Florida Statutes or
-
any special use classification as provided by Chapter 193, Florida Statutes.

Value Adjustment Board (VAB) Hearings will commence October 14, 2010 and conclude the week of December 13, 2010. The VAB final meeting is scheduled for March 10, 2011, at 2:00 P.M.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILING A PETITION:
Select “File a New Petition” to begin the online filing process. Complete the appropriate online petition and click ‘submit’.
PETITIONS ARE NOT CONSIDERED COMPLETE UNLESS ACCOMPANIED BY A PAYMENT.
A non-refundable filing fee of $15.00 per single parcel is required, payable by Master Card, Visa, American Express, or Discover credit card payments only. A credit card convenience fee will be added to your charge (see below).

NOTES
The petition must be signed by the owner, filed by a licensed agent, or accompanied by written authorization from the owner.
You are required to provide a valid e-mail address to electronically submit a petition online. Once you have submitted your petition, you will be provided with a transaction number and password, with which you can track the status of your petition.
CONTIGUOUS OR MULTIPLE PARCELS
You have the option to file online separate petitions for contiguous undeveloped parcels or multiple parcels. A $15.00 filing fee is required for each single petition.
To file a single joint petition for contiguous undeveloped parcels or multiple parcels, contact the Property Appraiser’s Office at (772)226-1506. A $15.00 filing fee is required for the first parcel, with an additional $5.00 for each consecutive parcel. Additional filing instructions are available at:

LATE-FILED PETITIONS
Late-filed petitions are those filed after the filing deadline of September 14, 2010, 11:59:59 p.m., and will not be scheduled for a hearing. Late-filed petitions must be accompanied by a written explanation showing good cause or extraordinary circumstances for the delay in filing. The Petition will be submitted for a good cause review. If your petition is received without the explanation, you will receive a “Clerk’s Notice” stating that your petition is incomplete and subject to not being processed.
